Why teachers make strong instructional designers
You design learning objectives, build toward them, assess whether they landed, and adjust — every single day. Instructional design is that loop applied to corporate training: define the outcome, design the experience, and measure it. Your pedagogy is the expensive-to-acquire part.
What you need to add
Learn the corporate frameworks and tools: ADDIE or SAM as a design model, an authoring tool like Articulate Storyline or Rise, and the basics of how an LMS delivers and tracks training. Rebuild one of your best lessons as a polished e-learning module.
The realistic on-ramp
Build a two-piece portfolio (one branching scenario, one standard module), then target corporate L&D, edtech, or training-vendor roles. A learning-experience-designer or training-specialist title is a common entry point. Check your general AI career readiness with five questions about your experience, motivation, available time, and timeline. This assessment does not evaluate fit for a specific role.
